Episode 50: Long Term Success Following Bariatric Surgery Depends on this…
Show Notes

Everyone who has bariatric surgery plans to have long-term success, usually described in terms of maintaining their weight loss over time. As you know, that is not always the case. Regain is a struggle for a lot of people after the “honeymoon period” is over. In the book Atomic Habits, the author, James Clear talks about the emphasis most people place on goals. He wisely points out that regardless of the goal, whether it be to win a sporting competition, be the champion of the spelling bee, or maintaining a healthy weight following bariatric surgery:  “Winners and losers have the same goals.” Both baseball teams have the goal of winning the championship game. All of the 4th graders have the goal of winning the spelling bee. All bariatric patients have the goal of maintaining their weight loss following surgery. What’s more important than having goals, then? Listen in and hear what James Clear says. By the way, I wholeheartedly agree with him! Atomic Habits can be found here.
